Episode 1: A New Beginning Summary: This is the very first story in a Star Trek series of my own. These are all new characters. Rating: G Disclaimer: All of these characters belong to me and me alone. The Class and ship belong to me. I am borrowing Star Fleet, the time line, and a few alien races. I would like to add, that I've created a few of my own and those belong to me also. Thank you Gene Roddenberry for such an outstanding idea as Star Trek. I'm not writing this to make money, this is only for fun and to see exactly how far I can stretch my imagination. Author's note: I'll want your feedback on where to take the characters. They are only a sketch of what they will become. Send all ideas to velliana@yahoo.com Codes: Everyone |

On any normal day Deep Space: Three was generally a very quit, very slow paced space station newar the edge of the Gamma Quadrant. But this would be no normal day. Today a new ship, and entirely new class of Starship, was to be christened there. The Phantom Class ships were state-of-the-art. They were protected by Multi-phasic shielding. Equipped with a new type of temporal cloaking device, developed by some of Star Fleets foremost scientists, made her suitable for stealth missions. However, she had many available functions. The ship was powered by a "hybrid" warp core which still used antimatter as it's main energy source, but gave the ship transwarp capabilities while taking up less space than the usual warp engines. This particular ship was 21 decks deep from bridge to base deck and was nearly half a mile wide and long. She was suited to hold 892 persons comfortably with both crew and passenger suites split up on the 3rd through 15th decks. There were also a sickbay, four holodecks, a salon, a tailor, a ships general store, a large gatering facility, furnished with a bartender and three replicaters,an obervation deck, and various research facilities. The ship could be run with a skeleton crew of 93 in an emergency. However, the entire crew consisted of 493 enlisted crewmembers, 98 auxiliary crewmembers, and 8 children. 599 life forms in all. Yips and Hoorah's resounded throughout out the space station as family, friends, and noted officials watched the bantam champagne bottle break on the hull of the newly christened ship. Her crew were all present as Fleet Admiral Reginald Harrison gave the order to disembardk and the USS Arcadia NZ-13593 departed for her first real mission. Their first assignment was a diplomatic endeavor. The Arcadia and her crew were being sent to the edges of the Gamma Quadrant to make arrangements for a meeting for the signing of a treaty that would make Daaka Prime a part of the Federation. "Engineering, Report!" Captain Michail Hillard ordered as the docking clamps disengaged. "Engines at full, Captain," Lieutenant Vara Kai answered over the comm, "She's ready." "All crew and passenger's accounted for, Commander?" He asked looking to his right. "Aye, sir, all 718 life forms present," Commander Nari stated after tapping a few keys on her console. The Captain shifted in his seat, then, after a brief pause, gave the command, "Take us out, Mr. Donovan, Nice and slow." The young lieutenant followed his orders. "Lay in a course for the Daakarian System, Lieutenant. warp 5." "Aye, Sir." "Engage." |

"Come," Captain Michael Hillard called in response to his door chime. "Daddy!!" A small redheaded little girl cried as she ran into the Captain's ready room. "Hey, punkin-head," Michael smiled as he picked up the toddler up and flung her into the air causing the child to half scream half laugh as she returned to her father's strong arms, much to the relief of her mother. "I hope we're not disturbing you, Michael, but she wanted to see you before we went home," Emma Hillard said taking a seat on the couch nearest the windows. Emma smiled as she pushed a strand of Auburn hair out of her eyes. "And what did Lady Chelsea want to see me about today?" Michael asked as he patted down an unusually unruly patch of hair on his daughters head. "I went to chool t'day, Daddy!" The toddler replied as she wriggled to get free from her father's grasp. "And did you learn anything today?" He asked setting her down on the floor. Chelsea pursed her lips and tapped her cheek, imitating her mothers "Lemme-think-now" stance and after a brief moment nodded her head and said, "Yep, I learned that Sawah really don't like nana's." |

Soft music played as Commander Ehs'jel Nari stepped out of the sonic shower. She removed two hair pins and Ehsjel's long chesnut hair flowed down her bare back ending in soft curls near her waist. She slipped on a light blue silk night gown and walked out of the bathroom. After picking up a tattered book in her room and putting on a light blue silk robe Ehsjel went into the living room and placed her book on the coffe table. She went over to the replicator and ordered. "Earl Grey tea, sweet, 42 degrees Celcius." Within seconds the beverage materialized. Ehsjel picked up the beverage and took a sip. Satisfied, she returned to her couch and adjoining coffee table. Picking up the tattered book she took a small pen from the binding and began to write. Stardate 59936 (April 23, 2478) Dear Diary, Today went off without a hitch. No glitches as of yet, everything in perfect running order. Utterly blissful. It's so much different from my last assignment on the Vagabond. What a perfect name for that ship. I'm surprised that bucket of bolts lasted as long as she did. Everyday there was some emergency. I can't even begin to count how many times we evacuated that buzzeard before she finally blew. Ha, seems so weird. I like it though. I guess that's it for today. <shrug> I guess I just can't think in all this quiet. EN Ehs'jel stood up and stretched, "Computer, Alternative Rock, Early 21st century. Raise volume 4 percent." |
